You can feel in every detail, that the devs really love Privateer and wanted to give a new generation the experience. The 'best' ship, the Coyote, looks pretty much like a CenturionĮven the prices and the payout from missions seems to be on a levelįor me this is so amazing, that an old game formula has been transported into the new era and has been improved upon. The ship-salesman gives you a pitch for every ship, but he has shades in this game, so he's cooler The sound, when you hit a jumpgate is similar Travel between systems and in-system works the same, but they added sublight-travel, which is an awesome new option. The map with the letters and numbers is also a nice nod For example the colorless radar is round, while the colored radar is more oblong and curved.

The graphics for the equipment look very similar. You can buy pretty much the same equipment, including a repair bot. The missiles are the same with the added bonus of swarm-missiles The weapon types are more or less the same. The mission types are really pretty much the same: cargo, patrol, scout, fight, bounty

The main area on every station/planet is called 'Concourse' You can buy a smuggling compartment (in Privateer you got it through a mission though) Your first ship can hold 10 pieces of cargo You start off with a non-color-coded radar When you land on a station the comm says 'You are entering an automatic landing zone' You start off with a garbage ship with only one measly laser What I found in my first few hours of playing were the following: I mean wow, it's so similar in so many ways that it feels like coming home after a long time. Mostly because it's so much like a childhood favorite of mine, which is Wing Commander: Privateer. I'm kind of ashamed of myself, that I only found out about the game a few days ago.
